It was diffcult to isolate individual ducks from this group to get a clean shot with both good lighting and water. I also found it very challenging to handle the contrast range as well when under direct sunlight. The white feather is always blown! Although I tried many shots that morning, not really one I was particularly pleased with... Argh! Have to try harder next time. 公鳥的花紋很清楚,但是好像紅了一點。 Very clear pattern on the male. Seems to be slightly heavy on the red.

These are truly great shots and I love the warm early morning light too, Angus! Probably the only nit I have is the blown white ... Tell me how you meter your exposure and perhaps I can share my experience from there. KK Hui ARPS www.geocities.com/kkhui_001

Quote: Haven't done much with the color. It is roughly what I remember as well in the viewfinder. I guess the very warm morning light made everything brownish-orange. | kk, thanks for comments. Its mainly my oversight that morning. As the sun rises, the light was brightening all the time. I haven't checked my histograms frequent enough to adjust the exposures. I determine my exposure mainly by the following: 1) I spot meter (in-camera) some neutral tone subjects (such as grasses and leaves) and manually adjust the aperture/shutter to the middle 2) I fire a couple of test shots at my intended subject and then examine the histogram to ensure that it looks reasonable and there were no blown highlights; I tend to allow about 1/3 stop from the right side to give some safety margin I used manual exposure so that my exposures won't be screwed up by the changing backgrounds. I rarely use Av mode any more. This usually works well on sunny or cloudy days. But I just learned that I need to be much more careful when shooting in early mornings as the light changes very rapidly. And since the sun was rising from a very low angle, the bird hide casted a very long shadow on the pond. When the ducks swimmed in and out of the shadows, there were great differences in exposures. I was too excited to press the shutter as they swim towards me in good light, I didn't adjust my exposures frequent enough, many of my shots were blown! Quote: Thanks, Daniel!
