《香港及華南鳥類》：真正的原鴿 Rock Dove 在中國很罕見，只在少數孤立地點出現。

家鴿 (domestic pigeons) 和野鴿 (feral pigeons) 都是從純種的原鴿 Rock Dove / Pigeon，Columba livia 而來，所以參考書將牠們都歸在「原鴿」之下，並加上 Feral Pigeon 來俱別。
純種的原鴿翼灰色，上有明顯的黑色「兩柴」，蜡膜較小，嘴較薄，在石崖上居住 ，而城市中常見的家鴿和野鴿則五顏六色都有（城市人嘛！  ）。
