Neusiedler See is an inland lake in the eastern part of Austria. It is 2 hours from Vienna by train. The southern portion of the lake belongs to Hungary. It is one of the 4 nationalparks in this small country. In June, birds are busy raising young. There are plenty of Greylag geese in the grassland bordering the lake. Kestrels and Marsh Harriers are plentiful. Besides, wetland birds, we saw and heard quite some songbirds without firm identification. Actually we only got one Deutsche bird guide bought locally with us. Anyway it is a good place to visit for a combined birding and cycling trip when you stop by Vienna. One last remark: Do not expect to buy anything Swarovski in Austria. It is 50% more expensive than in Hong Kong. We only manage to pick up 2 spare rubber caps for my binoculars for 10 Euro.
