Yellow-nibbed duck & Garganeys 斑咀鴨,白眉鴨 31/3/2005 Ji An, Jilin吉林集安市 The Yalu river is the only river in the Northeastern China that does not freeze in winter. Some ducks stay here for the whole winter. In recent years, after construction of hydroelectric dam, part of the Lake Songhua 松花湖near Jilin was warmed up and remains open in winter. Now it attracts thousands of Ruddy Shelducks and some Smews to stay there over winter. The ducks here are busy feeding on something floating. Is it some kind of algae?
