A total of 2516 nests of four species at 9 nesting colonies was observed. Here is the preliminary result (nest no.)   Chinese Pond Heron - 1171   Cattle Egret - 1115     Night Heron - 190   Little Egret - 33     ? nest - 7   Chinese Pond Heron and Cattle Egret are dominant spp. Little Egret is the least abundant spp.   The survey will be published in a report to HKBWS and an international scientific paper.   Captain     Logged Captain Guest Re: Hainan egret and heron nest survey -result « Reply #1 on: Jul 5th, 2004, 10:21am » Quote Modify Remove More nests in Hainan reported and counted in June, after the survey in May.   http://www.hinews.cn/jisxw/hn_article.php?wzid=33762   Up to now, 4500 nests were recorded in Hainan in this breeding season. The Chinese Pond Heron is the dominant breedign spp (2582 nests).
