World Wetland Day - Bird Race

For members' information, the Society is assisting Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for the World Wetland Day student bird race.
The event will include two session of trainings (workshop and field trip) and the race location will be at Tsim Bei Tsui and HK Wetland Park.
AFCD informed us that there are small number of places left. Members (teachers) who wish to encourage your students to participate in the event, please get in touch with AFCD at 3152 2666 a.s.a.p.

Further to my earlier message, members who wish to offer help as trainers and facilitators at the following days:
Workshop: 11 Dec and 8 Jan (14:00 - 17:00)
Field trip: 18 Dec and 15 Jan (08:30 - 15:00)
Bird race: 23 Jan (08:30 - 15:00)

Dear friends
The HKBWS is going to assist the AFCD to organize the 5th Bird Race for secondary school students. This is a annual celebration event for the World Wetland Day.
The race will be organized on 23 January 2005 (Sunday, from 8:30am to 2:30pm) at Tsim Bei Tsui and Hong Kong Wetland Park Phase II. A total of 250 teachers and student (50 teams) will take part in the race. There will also be trainings and field practice sessions to be organized in December and January (see the previous message).
I am looking for helpers / adjudicators for the event. If you wish to offer help on 23 January or on other dates, please feel free to let me know.
Hope it would also be a gathering chance for birding friends, and we will have lunch afterwards....

The first training workshop was organized successfully. over 100 students from 23 schools participated in the event. Thanks for Apache, Robin, Chan Ming Ming and Carrie offered supported to facilitate the event.
Thanks also for AFCD and volunteers of the Hong Kong Wetland Park.

The first field trip was conducted on 18 December 2004. The aim of the trip is to offer on-site experience on habitat and bird identification. It cover areas in Hong Kong Wetland Park and Border Fence Road near Tsim Bei Tsui.
The next training workshops will be held on:
Lecture: 8 January 2004
Field trip: 15 January 2004
Members who wish to offer support as voluntary trainers could contact Carrie Ma at hkbws@hkbws.org.hk.
