Dear Apache, Congradulations! Your observations are very detail. I also saw these spoonbills this morning from the tower hide. Also, a total of 143 Black-faced Spoonbills were present in Mai Po. These birds are quite interesting. A17 (blue red) and A21 (green, red, yellow) were received the rings in Jan 1999. A17 was then found in poor condition and picked up to send to Kadoorie Farm for treatment. The bird was released two weeks later. The bird still comes back to Mai Po every winter. A21 still carries the antenna. But it also means it is not harmful and the bird still undergoes migration. The most exciting is T11, blue number ring on left leg, and single blue ring on right leg. This bird was received the rings from Taiwan. It is the first record of Taiwan bird coming to Hong Kong, although some Hong Kong bird have been found wintering in Taiwan already. Sighting of these colour-ringed spoonbills is very important as it could provide many information about this species. All members are welcome to submit the observations of these colour-ringed Black-faced Spoonbills (and also other ringed bird!!). Good birding Tung
