Dear Owen, Some immature Black-faced Spoonbills have been recorded in Hong Kong during summer months before (please refer to 'The Avifauna of Hong Kong'). The immature birds cannot breed and so they need not take a long migration to the breeding ground. So, they can wander around in the non-breeding area. There are a few hundreds of shorebird staying in Mai Po over summer that is in the same reason. Thanks for you concern to the spoonbill. Best regards, Yat-tung Yu
