Did you watch the news?
WHO suggested that wildbirds (especailly water bird)
are the MAIN source of bird flu......
so........I am not optimisstic

WWF Hong Kong has received no news about when the closure of Mai Po as a '...precautionary measure against bird flu...' will be lifted. It is doubtful whether AFCD themselves even know since apparently, the decision was taken at a '...very high level...' within government.
However, we have been talking to government about it and we will try and give you any news as soon as we have something good to say.

冇話專業唔專業o既.. 不過.. 個証變左. 有雀就唔用得. 冇雀先用得.. 好痛心o者.. 要再等一年先返黎. 真係幾 Down 架...!!! 點知出年會唔會又 close 呀? 唉~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!

米埔重開無期
【 明 報 專 訊 】 禽 流 感 在 亞 洲 多 個 地 區 爆 發 ， 政 府 於 1 月 30 日 突 然 宣 布 關 閉 有 「 雀 鳥 天 堂 」 之 稱 的 米 埔 自 然 保 護 區 （ 下 稱 米 埔 ） 為 期 4 周 。 至 昨 日 （ 2 月 29 日 ） 限 期 剛 屆 滿 ， 政 府 決 定 繼 續 關 閉 米 埔 ， 且 不 設 定 時 限 ， 只 表 示 會 一 直 檢 討 ， 米 埔 重 開 看 來 遙 遙 無 期 。
關 閉 一 月 損 失 45 萬
米 埔 關 閉 一 個 月 ， 預 計 負 責 管 理 的 世 界 自 然 （ 香 港 ） 基 金 會 已 損 失 45 萬 元 的 收 入 ， 如 今 「 無 了 期 」 關 閉 ， 勢 必 令 該 組 織 的 財 政 倍 添 壓 力 。
雖 然 米 埔 原 定 關 閉 的 期 限 昨 日 屆 滿 ， 但 政 府 遲 遲 未 表 態 作 進 一 步 安 排 ， 即 使 負 責 管 理 米 埔 的 世 界 自 然 （ 香 港 ） 基 金 會 也 沒 接 獲 通 知 ， 米 埔 經 理 楊 路 年 昨 日 接 受 查 詢 時 反 問 記 者 ﹕ 「 不 如 你 幫 我 問 政 府 跟 着 想 怎 樣 ﹖ 」
楊 路 年 解 釋 ， 至 今 未 有 機 會 與 政 府 官 員 面 談 米 埔 的 安 排 ， 但 米 埔 本 身 隨 時 可 以 重 開 ， 問 題 是 政 府 意 向 如 何 。 政 府 遲 遲 未 作 出 決 定 ， 令 管 理 人 員 不 知 應 該 繼 續 準 備 公 眾 或 學 校 團 體 於 3 月 的 參 觀 安 排 ， 還 是 應 該 着 手 辦 理 取 消 手 續 。 楊 表 示 本 周 將 主 動 接 觸 政 府 官 員 ， 以 進 一 步 了 解 具 體 情 况 。
觀 鳥 會 ﹕ 鳥 類 非 瘟 疫 源 頭
政 府 當 初 決 定 暫 時 關 閉 米 埔 引 來 外 間 不 少 反 響 ， 尤 其 一 些 熱 愛 觀 鳥 和 大 自 然 的 人 士 ， 其 中 香 港 觀 鳥 會 會 長 林 超 英 （ 天 文 台 長 ） 上 周 首 度 發 表 一 篇 「 會 長 的 話 」 ， 對 於 外 間 視 鳥 類 為 瘟 疫 的 起 源 或 傳 播 的 原 因 ， 他 形 容 是 一 個 不 幸 的 誤 會 。
林 超 英 分 析 ， 今 次 禽 流 感 襲 人 源 於 養 殖 的 家 禽 ﹔ 而 且 有 關 候 鳥 的 言 論 全 屬 假 設 ， 科 學 刊 物 至 今 也 未 見 有 關 案 例 報 道 ﹔ 更 重 要 的 是 今 次 禽 流 感 事 件 發 生 於 隆 冬 時 分 ， 候 鳥 都 在 過 冬 地 休 養 生 息 ， 不 作 遠 距 離 飛 行 ， 何 來 有 傳 播 能 力 ﹖
林 超 英 慨 嘆 ， 要 把 候 鳥 趕 盡 殺 絕 達 到 「 斷 絕 病 毒 傳 播 」 的 言 論 ， 既 漠 視 基 本 科 學 ， 亦 反 映 一 種 非 常 恐 怖 、 純 粹 以 個 人 為 中 心 的 世 界 觀 — — 把 所 有 生 物 都 視 為 敵 人 。 他 擔 心 ， 我 們 教 導 下 一 代 尊 重 生 命 ， 又 把 「 殺 」 字 掛 在 口 邊 ， 「 我 害 怕 有 一 天 他 們 長 大 後 ， 會 要 求 把 帶 菌 的 『 他 人 』 都 殺 掉 ﹗ 」

I know everyone is getting very frustrated with Mai Po being closed but WWF HK is working hard to lobby government to reopen Mai Po as soon as possible, especially in time for the spring shorebird migration.
However, we cannot protest in the streets nor ask reporters to write articles about it all the time in the newspapers in case of adverse reactions, especially form the poultry industry who will say that they are also affected by the ban on the live import of chickens from the mainland, and their livelihood is more important than birdwatching. Therefore, we have to do the lobbying in a more quiet way with the higher levels in government, and present as much scientific data to them as possible supporting our case.
I hope we can report some good news in the near future and that you can see the shorebirds in April!
