Tuesday (21/9/2004) At 6:30 am, more than 150 egrets were flying over Shing Mun River. Pity that I couldn't take a photo. At 4:30 pm, another flock of 40 egrets flew pass.

Residents here behave differently. They have an alarm clock, at around 6:00 a.m. they wake up and fly individually to either Dai Wai, Siu Lek Yuen or Ma On Shan. At around 5:00 p.m. they come back one by one to their roost. You will not see them in flocks and they fly close to the surface of the water. This is their schedule from Autumn to early Spring. In Summer it is another time table. I still cannot figure out their pattern in Summer. We saw them sometimes late night and not even one at 6:00 a.m. Here, flocks of egrets can be seen more easily in Autumn than Spring migation.

Sunday (3/10/2004) A Brown Shrike was being chased by a Long-tailed Shrike. The Brown Shrike was slightly smaller than the long-tailed S. and had a shorter tail. It stood on the light pole because the long-tailed S. kept chasing it when it came down. 佢比人追到打跟斗! Last time we saw the Brown Shrike in Penfold was during Spring Migration.
