Penfold Park was closed because of the Bird Flu. It reopened at the same time as Mai Po. There are c.15 pairs of Great Egrets breeding in the egretry, plus a couple of pairs of Little Egrets and possibly a pair of Cattle Egrets. Interestingly, when the egretry became established in the 1990s most of the breeding birds were Little Egrets with only 1-2 pairs of Great Egrets. I visited the park yesterday (April 27) afternoon but the only migrant was a lucionensis Brown Shrike. dave diskin
