Title: Re: Possible Broad-Billed Sandpiper at Mai Po Post by World Cup 2006 on Apr 19th, 2006, 8:33pm Neil, Another gentleman and I might be watching the same little bird from hide #7. Both of us were attracted by its very conspicuous split supercilium, even at such a distance. It was feeding actively, walking around here and there. I would also suspect it is a broad bill sandpiper. Let us see what the experts are going to say. ::) |

Title: Re: Possible Broad-Billed Sandpiper at Mai Po Post by David_Diskin on Apr 19th, 2006, 10:34pm Yes, you're right. It's a Broad-billed Sandpiper, which is to be expected at Mai Po at this time of year. Apart from the split-supercilium, the longish bill with a distinct kinked tip is a good way of identifiying this species. |
