Title: BirdLife: "Prestige" oil reach coast of France Post by Project Officer on Jan 3rd, 2003, 11:31am Information from Michael Szabo of BirdLife International, for members reference: Quote" "Prestige" oill reaches coast of France - first oiled birds found Attn BirdLife Network and staff The Prestige oil spill has now reached the south-west coast of France. LPO have issued a news release which you can read (in French) at: http://www.lpo-birdlife.asso.fr/comm/2002/comm2002-12-16.htm The key points (in English) are: * Since 30 December over 100 oiled birds have been recovered along the south-west coast of France, including Guillemots, Gannets, Kittiwakes and Puffins. * These birds have been analysed and the oil on their feathers is the same as the oil spilled from the "Prestige" * LPO has helped set up a network to monitor the coastline and recover oiled birds.
