Farmers at Long Valley suspected that KCRC¡¦s tunneling works had lowered the water table. Sarah Liao said this was caused by the recent dry weather in the Guangdong area, as EPD¡¦s monitoring found that there had been little change in the water level.

KCRC is using a new tunneling method to minimize damage to Long Valley: freeze the water in the soil first before excavating the cross passages between the main tunnels. The water table is also being monitored closely at the same time.
