Subject: Globally Threatened Bird Update for 2006 IUCN Red List

Dear colleagues,

At the recent Asia Council meeting in Tokyo we discussed the Globally Threatened Bird Update for the 2006 IUCN Red List. I have attached two documents relevant to this process:

* 2006 GTB update - Notes that outline how you can contribute to the 2006 Globally Threatened Bird Update;
* 2006 Asia topics - The discussions that have taken place so far about the species included on the Asia forum.

Please read the notes and consider whether you can contribute to the Asia forum, either online or by email. We would be grateful if you could forward this message to people within your networks who you consider may have valuable information to contribute.

Note that the deadline for contributions is 20 December, when we will assess the information available for each species and post a draft list of decisions on the Asia forum website (and also distribute them to you by email). We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Best wishes,
Mike

Subject: Globally Threatened Bird Update for 2006 IUCN Red List

Dear colleagues,

In mid-November I circulated to you information about the Globally Threatened Bird Update for the 2006 IUCN Red List, and several of you have subsequently contributed to the Asia forum on the BirdLife International website. The information available for each species has now been assessed, and draft decisions have been made on their 2006 IUCN Red List status.

These decisions have been posted on the Asia forum website, and are given in the attached spreadsheet. This shows the category of each species on the 2005 Red List, and the proposed category for the 2006 Red List. If you wish to make any further comments on these species, please either post these on the Asia forum website or email them to me. The deadline for contributions is 10 January, when final decisions will be made. Please see the attached notes for further information about the 2006 Globally Threatened Bird Update.

Best wishes,
Mike
