Title: Wind power in HK¡@¦b»´ä¹ê¦æ·¤Oµo¹q Post by HF_Cheung on Mar 17th, 2006, 4:53pm HK alread has its first wind turbine to harvast wind power. Now there are discussion and proposal for further wind turbine to be placed in various sites. I like to initiate a discussion on this topic, see whether HKBWS should choose a side up with a particular view. 1. Should we support wind power development in HK? 2. What conditions should be met before a wind turbine can be set up in a particular site? HF Cheung |

Title: Re: Wind power in HK¡@¦b»´ä¹ê¦æ·¤Oµo¹q Post by Cran on May 4th, 2006, 1:44pm According to the 'Hong Kong Offshore Wind Farm in Southeastern Waters Project Profile' published in April, 2006: "The offshore Project area is not of any known significance as a bird habitat or migration route." ®Ú¾Ú06¦~4¤ëªº'»´äªF«n¤ô°ì®ü¤W·¤Oµo¹q³õ ¤uµ{¶µ¥Ø²¤¶': "³oÓ¶µ¥Ø³õ¦a½d³ò¤º¨S¦³¤wª¾ªº³¾Ãþ´Ï®§¦a©Î¾E±p¸ô½u¡C" Chinese version: http://www.epd.gov.hk/eia/chi/register/profile/latest/cesb146.pdf English version: http://www.epd.gov.hk/eia/register/profile/latest/esb146.pdf Were there any studies for the area around Ninepin Group on birds usage? I agree with isaac_chan that it is possible terns, seabirds and other migratory birds would be affected, especially when you look at the map in the pdf file, you can see the area of the potential site is quite large. |

Title: Re: Wind power in HK¡@¦b»´ä¹ê¦æ·¤Oµo¹q Post by HF_Cheung on Jun 8th, 2006, 10:33am As a reply to Cran's query, I now put in a brief update on the progress of the wind farm project. A comprehensive bird survey of the windfarm area has already started in May. This study is carried out by a private consultant. From what I understood, the survey will cover one full year. The survey will be more frequent in the migratory seasons (autumn and spring). HKBWS will continue to gather information on the whole windfarm project. HF Cheung |
