Radio-tracking Black-faced Spoonbills

Last week eleven Black-faced Spoonbills were trapped at Mai Po and fitted with leg-mounted radio-transmitters. This was undertaken as an AFCD initiative and is a joint study by Asia Ecological Consultants, World Wide Fund for Nature (HK) and the Yamashina Institute for Ornithology in Japan.

This is part of the on-going study into the wintering ecology of Black-faced Spoonbills in Hong Kong. The primary aims of this study are to gather detailed information on habitat selection (especially at night), changes in habitat selection during the winter, and home ranges of individual birds. Nocturnal habitat selection of Black-faced Spoonbills remains the single largest gap in our knowledge of the species in Hong Kong.

All birds trapped were fitted with a single green leg band (A27 – A37), any sightings of these and other colour-ringed Black-faced Spoonbills should be forwarded to either Yu Yat Tung or myself (pjleader@asiaecol.com.hk).

請看貼圖"腳環"
最右手邊的幾隻,有三隻的腳有綠色帶.有一隻可以清潔看到一條"天線"的物體.
