Here share an interesting swallow information that's excerpted from the book 'Everything you never learned about birds - by Rebecca Rupp, P.94':

"House martins and swallows are faithful to a nest site, rather than to a mate.  Males return from migration first; if the female shows up at the nest site in time, the relationship may be on again.  (If she's a slow flier, she may be out of luck.)"
