Report of Wu Kau Tang outing on 14th October 2002

The outing was attended by 38 participants.
The weather was sunny and warm. Fortunately, it wasn't very humid and gentle breeze have been blowing through out the trip hence making our trip more enjoyable. The outing should actually be given 3 asterisks instead of 2. It turned out to be rather strenuous. We started at 8:45am from Wu Kau Tang carpark, arrived at Sam Ah Tsuen around 10:30am, reached the fish ponds near Lai Chi Wo at 11:30am where Crested Kingfisher was found before.  We then had lunch at Lai Chi Wo by around 1:30pm. By 3pm we were around Fan Shui Au. Finally arriving at Luk Keng by 5pm.

It was a pity that we failed to spot the Crested Kingfisher at Lai Chi Wo. Nevertheless, at the fish ponds in that area, we found a Sharp tailed Sandpiper. Scarlet backed Flowerpeckers were abundant and their beautiful colors were enjoyed by most participants against a background of forget-me-not blue sky.  One of the most impressive moment of the trip was a "fight" between a gorgeous White Bellied Sea Eagle and a smaller but swifter Crested Goshawk. The show lasted for about 30 seconds and was well observed by almost all of us.

Our bird count was 34, not too bad for such a warm and sunny day.
