A Pallas's Reed Bunting was found yesterday evening at Lok Ma Chau, and has been seen very well again today. This is the fourth Hong Kong record.

The bird is present in an area of fishponds managed for KCRC. This is a private site and access to the site is restricted. Birdwatchers are asked not to visit the site unaccompanied.

KCRC have, however, kindly given permission for birdwatchers to visit the site with a member of Asia Ecological Consultants (who manage the site).
A visit has been arranged for tomorrow morning (Saturday 28th) to look for the bird again. Anyone wishing to join this visit should meet at the Mai Po car park at 8.00 from where they will be taken to the site. Please note that this site is within the Frontier Closed Area and anyone wishing to visit should hold a valid FCA permit for the Lok Ma Chau area.

Also present in the same area today were 2 pheasant-tailed jacanas and a lanceolated warbler.

The Pallas's Reed Bunting was seen by about 12 HKBWS members this morning (Sat).

However, it was a bit flighty and I know that better views would be appreciated (plus there may be others who were not free this morning).

So I will escort another visit tomorrow (Sunday 1st October). Meet at Mai Po Car Park at 08.30 (sorry - I am not free to make it any earlier).

The site should be less disturbed tomorrow (no contractor).

Hi Mike,

Thank you so much for providing such great chance visiting LMC and seeing the PR Bunting.

As the Society will have an outing to Fuen Yuen tomorrow morning, is it possible to postpone the visit to the afternoon or in the Monday morning (it is a holiday)?

Regards,

Hi Forrest

I'm not free in the afternoon on Sunday, but I would be happy to arrange a visit on Monday morning if the bird is still there.

As far as tomorrow is concerned I will be going up to LMC at 08.30 in any case so anyone not going on the Society outing is welcome to join.

Assuming that the bird is there tomorrow I will confirm regarding Monday.

Best regards

Unfortunately though it was searched for by about 15 people there was no sign of the Pallas's Reed Bunting at Lok Ma Chau this morning (Sunday 1st October).

Accordingly there won't be an escorted group visit there tomorrow (Monday).
