Today at Mai Po there were at least 500 waders of 22 species  seen at Mai Po

These included early Kentish Plover, 2 summer plumaged Dunlin, a couple of Broad-billed Sandpiper, a Long-toed Stint and five Grey-tailed Tattlers all on the Scrape (pond 16/17).

There were also 11 Black-faced Spoonbills on the Scrape and a juvenile Peregrine unsuccessfully chased the waders at about 2pm.

Cheers

15 White-throated Kingfishers! This must be a high count for Hong Kong I would guess.

Cheers

Possible Malayan Night Heron

Three WWF-HK staff (including myself) have now seen this bird over the last 3 months at Mai Po. All sightings were brief and not sufficient to identify the bird accurately, but all descriptions point to a Malayan Night Heron.

Two of the recent encounters were at Pond #24f. I would be grateful if any birdwatcher/photographer could help with this record as it may be very significant.

Many thanks,

Bena Smith
WWF Reserve Officer

Have all the sightings been at #24 or have they been elsewhere.

Is the bird seen in the late evening, early morning or anytime.

Has it only been seen in flight or has it been seen on the ground

Graham
