Black Kite-watching at Lei Yue Mun 觀鳶自在鯉魚門

Good news! Wintering Black Kite is arriving Hong Kong, it's comfortable season to go Kite-watching too! Yeah!! 
I'll be Kite-watching at Kowloon- Lei Yue Mun on 31 Oct 2004 (Sun), with photographer friends and Black Kite watchers. Welcome to join us.
Time: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Assemble: 9:00 a.m. on the dot, Lei Yue Mun Public Carpark (Near the Lei Yue Mun Praya Road)
Tour point: Black Kite activity and foraging area. Super sea view of the Lei Yue Mun!!
Of course, take care of yourself and have fun!

好消息！冬候黑鳶（麻鷹）陸續抵港，加上氣溫漸爽，正是觀鳶好季節啊!本年十月三十一日（星期日）在下將於九龍－鯉魚門與攝影師及觀鳶好友們觀賞麻鷹。歡迎參加。
時間：上午9:00 - 11:00
集合：上午九時正，鯉魚門海傍道的公眾停車場（逾時不候）
觀賞項目： 麻鷹之活動及覓食地。一望無際之鯉魚門無敵海景！

There probably other Kite tours coming up, it's gathering and fun time! I want to visit Tsim Bei Tsui too! Let's see if we could match your schedule then.

Some bird watchers cannot join activities on sunday morning ..... But unfortunately, most activities are on Sunday. Nevertheless, it is understood that organisers and other watchers are free on Sunday ....

I see. I understand the situation. For instance, some of my friends go church on Sunday and some work on shift.
Maybe, email or message me if anyone would like to go Kite-watching in weekdays. Let's see if there could arrange a special tour. Just say!

I had a pre-trip to Lei Yue Mun today morning and kite-watching was better at mid-hill level than sea level. I passed Che Teng Village and trekked up with my gears for a better location for photography. I didn't trekked up to Devil's Peak as there was an hiking event (people mountain, people sea ). Probably the view in Devil's Peak is better and there is a viewing site but it will be tough to trek up from sea level.

Yes, the mid-hill level was also the location that the i-cable movied the Black Kite programme on 2003. On that visit, in addition to the soaring Kites and Common Buzzard, we saw a Black Kite stick carrying too! But in consider that the location will be 'man mountain man sea' on the weekends after the Chun-Yeung Festival (as you seen), we choose to tour the Lei Yun Mun (sea level) instead. Yet, we are flexible to add the route on site!
I might slip mouth... on the coming Lei Yun Mun trip, we're targetted to a 'secret' Kite-watching place (a photographer's choice, on his lead), Kites forage nearby. It's an adventure, I reserve it to the day.

It's a Sunny day on 31 Oct 2004. About 26 degree celsius, humidity 63-86%, a comfortable day for Kite-watching~~
We entered the road on left of the Lei Yue Mun-Tin Hau Temple, then took a 15 minutes walk to the Black-Kite watching location.
Here we were: From left 1) We walked pass a little beach.
2) Parents and kids stopped by the rocky shore and enjoyed themselves.
3) We continued our way to the Lei Yue Mun Point（鯉魚門咀）.
Here we arrived! What's up for the day?
Black Kites appeared occasionally above the mountain.
The rocky shore was beautiful! Birders looked soooo tiny over there, hehee...
A leisure day~~
Looked to the Junk Bay (Tseung Kwan O) direction.
When the cruise entered the port of Lei Yun Mun, wah~~
Daniel (L) and Felix (R) photographing the birds.
I... have photographed a grasshopper.
Some plastic PP bullets and bullet shields spread in the place, possibly was a place for war games.

The White-bellied Sea-Eagle:
Sighted three times before noon, the WBSE were all came from the Junk Bay direction. Twice, two different single bird flew toward the harbour. Thirdly, in pair, soaring, chasing, interacting.
These were photographed by my Nikon coolpix 995. Just for record la~~

Lunch time:
A nice place that Felix introduced for lunch (the set lunch was just about HK$22.00).
Alex took care of the kids (Left) and parents enjoyed the free moment. Nice food, all us enjoyed the gathering. After lunch, most of us walked to the Yau Tong MTR station (15 minutes).
What a nice trip! Thanks for Daniel's led and recommendation. Felix's pre-trip was helpful and informative too!
