Public Consultation on the Nature Conservation Policy Review

On 17th July the HKSAR Government launched a 3 month-long public consultation on Hong Kong¡¦s first ever Nature Conservation Policy under the heading ¡§Nature Outlook ¡V Review of Nature Conservation Policy¡¨. In the consultation document, a scoring system has been proposed for evaluating the ecological value of individual sites.  It has also proposed two options to better conserve the ecologically important sites under private ownership, i.e.:-
- Management agreements with landowners; &
- Private-public partnership.

Finding out about the Nature Conservation Policy
You can find details of the review at the websites of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (www.afcd.gov.hk ) and the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau (www.etwb.gov.hk )

The Government has also published five thousand hard copies of the review under the same title. These can be picked up for free at Government offices and at the Roadshow exhibitions that will take place at the following locations:

As you read the review you may consider asking yourself the following questions:

How well do you think the current policy including land use zoning and control, is working?
What do you think about the Private-public partnership? Will it be implement able?
What do you think about the scoring system? Will it be fair and flexible to each different species of HK and the habitats with different scales of size?
What do you think about management agreement with landowners? Will it be effective?
What more could be done to conserve Hong Kong¡¦s biodiversity?
