Records 2002 – Bird Watching Competition

Dear Members,

As you all remember that this year is the 45th anniversary of our Society. To celebrate this memorable moment, HKBWS is going to organize a 24 hrs competition “Records 2002 – Bird Watching Competition” for all members on 14th & 15th December 2002. All bird species recorded during this event will collectively form a Total Bird Record of HK of that day and it will become the commemoration of this anniversary of the Society.

This competition also aims to arouse our members awareness on the importance of bird records submission which in turn helps to encourage more members to submit bird records observed during their daily bird watching. Not just the experienced birdwatchers can submit the bird records, a beginner can also do it which, in fact, is very easy and simple. No matter how junior or senior you are, being a member of HKBWS, it is our responsibilities to submit the bird records to the Records Committee by the end of the year.

The competition will be carried out in team basis where each team shall comprise at least four members. The team with the most number of birds recorded within 24 hours would be the winner and hence, each team should record as many bird species as they could.  A Dinner Gathering will be held right after the competition where the result of the competition will be announced and prizes will be presented. At the gathering, participants are welcome to express their competition feelings and discuss their birds recorded with other teams. Importantly, they can also take this opportunity to share their bird watching experiences & techniques with the new comers.

All bird species recorded at the competition will then be submitted to the Records Committee for verification. As recalled from our past experiences, more than 180 bird species could be recorded in December.

All new comers/ freshmen are cordially invited to participate this meaningful event. Some experienced members have already formed teams and are waiting for you to enroll to share the joys of bird watching together. Please do not hesitate to act, join us NOW!
