Or take 2 photos & stitch them together. Not great, but is my first effort :-[http://lamma.hk/image_files/birds/AGuy_113411%20-%20Greater%20Coucal%20-%20male%20%5BCentropus%20sinensis%5D.jpg YSW, Lamma Island D70s w/Nikkor 300mm F/4 12/03/2006 |

Title: Re: Greater Coucal (Lamma Island) Post by Bob Thompson on Mar 13th, 2006, 6:23pm Nice job Guy, I believe that" stitching" is common amongst digiscopers. Digiscoping suffers from fringing on the edge of frame, so some photographers take 2 photo's , one of the head and one of the tail and "stich" them together. |

Title: Re: Greater Coucal (Lamma Island) Post by johnallcock on Oct 11th, 2006, 2:29pm The posting on the 1st Sept (photo taken 25 Aug)appears to show a juvenile Lesser Coucal rather than Greater. Note the pale face, chestnut on the crown, streaked (rather than barred) appearance to the upperparts, dark back, relatively short bill and dark (grey) eye. Juvenile Greater Coucal is generally rather similar to adults but with white barring the the black feathers (and of course dark barring on the wings) Note that adult Lesser Coucals moult into a brown, streaked plumage (similar to the juveniles) during the winter but would not show barring on the wings. |

Thanks John. Is nice to get a Lesser when you think you've got a Greater. Got what I thought was a Lesser last year in the same spot (Lowland) but everybody told me was a Greater......... so this could be my first Lesser. I'll repost it under Lesser. Thanks once again. Another shot of the Greater from last week... http://lamma.hk/Flora%20and%20Fauna/Birds/Cuckoos%20and%20Coucals/Greater%20Coucal%20-%20%5BCentropus%20sinensis%5D%20-%202006-10-07-13-47.jpg |
