Great close-up shots they are, Daniel! ;D

Anybody knows why they look so dirty/soiled this season? The bill of this BFS has a scar marking indicating some injury of some sort had been inflicted previously?! :'(

Yes, the spoonbill would show a bit dirty at this time of the year. The spoonbill moult in late winter and so the feathers are quite 'old' in late autumn/early winter. The old feathers would show a bit dirty because they are worn and dirt have been cummulated for some time already.
