Dear all,

The Black-faced Spoonbill Research Group is still collecting information of all resightings of the colour-ringed Black-faced Spoonbill in Hong Kong and also overeseas. To faciliate this, I would like to invite all bird watchers, photographers who saw and/or photographed the BFS with rings to submit records here! Sightings of colour-ringed Black-faced Spoonbill in Mai Po:

25 Oct 2005
North Korea BFS - left tibia: yellow; right tibia: red over green

Right leg: Red band above tibia with black writing and numbered K50.
Left leg: White-over-yellow-over-white above tibia.

Resighting of a Taiwan-ringed BFS

28 Oct 2005

A BFS which has a blue ring with code T39 on left tibia and three colour rings (green-red-green) on right tibia was seen in Pond 6, Mai Po this morning.

This is only the second case of Taiwan-ringed Black-faced Spoonbill resighted in Hong Kong.

A20 (Blue and white rings on left), A21, J12 (a yellow long ring with code J12, green and white rings on other leg).

J12 was received the rings in Okinawa, Japan on 7 March 2005.

Dear Bena,

Thanks for your posting. The yellow* on right tibia is actually red. This is the bird ringed in North Korea.

I also saw this bird later this morning and also A21 and K47.

Hi Tung,

K47 and A21 on Gei wai 11 between 06:15 and 09:15 24th Nov 2005.

Regarding the other banded BFS, it was sighted again this morning by another birdwatcher;

BFS - left tibia: yellow; right tibia: pink (light colour) over green. Maybe the band in question has faded in colour?

I will be counting again in gei wai 11 over the next few days so I will try to resight (and if possible photograph) the bird for further confimation.
