Breeding Terns Survey 繁殖燕鷗調查

The first flock of Bridled Tern in the "Tern Island" (the usual Tern Breeding site in Mirs Bay) this year was seen on 27 April 2004. 35 were seen in a tight flying flock and 4 other on open sea. 10 Black-naped Tern were also seen at Tap Mun and Kung Chau on that day. On the same day, 3 Aleutian Tern were seem in the same area.
On 24 April, only 1 Black-naped Tern was seen in Tap Mun.
When you go to the breeding islands, please do not disturb the Terns.
This year we like to collect more information from Ninepins and Soko Island. If any of you go there and find some or no Terns, that is important data, and please send us a note. APCheung@CityU.edu.hk

褐翅燕鷗 Bridled 170
黑枕燕鷗 Black-naped 32
白額燕鷗 Little 6
白翅浮鷗 White-winged Black 23
雖然今天天氣欠佳，但是在塔門一帶仍見到不少燕鷗

今天共有34人參加燕鷗調查，結果如下：
34 people took part in today's Tern Survey. The results are:
Bridled 褐翅燕鷗 460
Black-naped 黑枕燕鷗 142
Roseate 粉紅燕鷗 8
其他還有

Little Egret 小白鷺
Pacific Reef Egret 岩鷺
Black-eared Kite 麻鷹
Chinese Francolin 鷓鴣 (heard 聽到)
Indian Cuckoo 四聲杜鵑（heard 聽到）

Red-whiskered Bulbul 紅耳鵯
Chestnut Bulbul 栗背短腳鵯 (at Kung Chau 在弓洲)
Blue-whistling Thrush 紫嘯鶇
Crested Myna 八哥
Black Drongo 黑卷尾
可惜白腹海鵰不在家
Unfortunately the White-bellied Sea Eagles were not at home.

The weekly terns survey was taken place on 29 May. Results are:
Black-naped Tern: Total 135
Roseate Tern: Total 46
Bridled Tern: Total 348
Other interested records include:
1 Ancient Auk at Tolo Harbour,
3 Common Terns at Tap Mun,
1 Little Tern near Kung Chau.
Breeding activities including territorial behaviour and pairing of Roseate Terns were observed. Also, one bird carrying a single white flag on tarsus of right leg was seen. This bird was received the flag from Australia and a bird (perhaps same individual) with same flag was also seen in summer 2003.
