Tern Study Group Alan Chan gave us a "briefing" at the start of the trip. It was full of information and we were so concentrated, I forgot to write down some notes. I can remember the terns but not the places. Would the Tern Study Group state here the route of yesterday's trip ? It's a very interesting trip. Thanks to Alan Chan & the Tern Study Group. Betty

Dear Betty, I'm glad that you find the outing interesting. The route that we took yesterday ran like this: 1. Started at Ma Liu Shui Pier. 2. First stop at Shum Chung to see our old WBSE friends, who had probably gone fishing. 3. Hoi Ha, where the first shots were fired at close range. 4. Port Island, to have a look at some “model” accommodation, both natural and artificial. 5. Tern watching, shooting and counting at islands in Mirs Bay. 6. Returned to Tap Mun – another shooting spree, this time at barn swallows; plus a good look at a few red feet on a red buoy. 7. Finished at Wong Shek Pier, with more sightings on the way. Although many people know the place already, we must be careful not to attract the wrong kind of attention ourselves. I think you can see how busy the small rock can be and how vulnerable the birds are to disturbance. We hope that more and more people can enjoy the wonder and appreciate the need for conservation, but in a gradual and controlled manner. Another similar outing is being planned in July 04, so watch out for it in the coming bulletin. We must also thank Tam Yiu Leung, the other leader for the outing. Cheers! Alan
