Title: Terns in Sai Kung harbour 西貢海內的燕鷗
Post by Steenheilesen on May 12th, 2006, 8:25pm
This afternoon at 6 p.m. I saw 2 of this birds in Sai Kung harbour. Last time I saw terns in the harbour was last year when a typhoon passed Hong Kong.

For the record the tern in the photos is a Whiskered Tern.

If you go to Sai Kung Harbour now, or more accurately to the   Sai Kung Public Pier area and the small rocky island a couple of hundred metres or so to the north, there are Black-naped Terns around, and possibly able to be photographed.

Mike Turnbull.

Thanks Mike!

Yes, we also found Black-napes near Sai Kung Public Pier on 27/5/06. We should find more during the survey this Sunday.

There are over 40pcs of Terns out of the Sai Kung Pier, but it was too far away to identify.

Thanks! They are most probably Black-napeds, perhaps with a few Roseates. They used to chase boats towards the end of the breeding season, before returning to the ocean.
