Subject: [APMW] Latest Ramsar decision on Avian Influenza and the environment

Dear all,

The 34th Meeting of the Ramsar Standing Committee took place in Switzerland, 10-13 April; see full report on
http://ramsar.org/sc/34/key_sc34_report.htm

The issue of avian influenza was discussed and the meeting passed Decision SC34-15 which states: The Standing Committee stressed that the terms of Resolution IX.23 on highly pathogenic avian influenza should be followed by all Contracting Parties, especially in relation to issues of killing wild birds and the destruction or substantive modification of wetlands, and that the Parties should take a fully integrated approach
to managing avian influenza risks.

With best wishes, Taej
