[Hong Kong] Really have no idea of what it is

Really have no idea of what it is

Taken on Apr 10, 2021 @Maipo Mudflat

Just looking at its bill, it looks like a godwit but its plumage is in no way resembles that of a black-tailed godwit.

This is indeed a Black-tailed Godwit. Nice pix.
You can see the black tail in the last photo. This is a winter plumaged bird, which may look different to the summer plumage that is most often illustrated.

Thanks very much Mike for the info.

To be even more specific, this is the newly described bohaii sub species of Black-tailed Godwit. https://bou.org.uk/blog-zhu-black-tailed-godwit-bohai-bay-subspecies-china/

The bohaii sub species is our common winter visitor, while our spring passage migrant are sub species melanurodies, which usually come pass Deep Bay in nice colourful breeding plumage.

Cheers,
Katherine
