I had a close encounter with a Fairy Pitta today on Po Toi.
Unfortunately, I screwed up with the photos because the wheel on my Canon had moved to Tv rather than Av - so the photos were too dark. Here are some done using the Adjust Lighting feature of Photoshop
This bird has some pale colour around the gape. I'm wondering if it is a first year bird?

Great bird - autumn has certainly begun now!
The movability of the Av/Tv/P etc knob on the Canon 50D - guess that's what you have - is a design weakness for me; carrying it over the shoulder, mine moves far too frequently for my liking, with the same frustration that you experienced here Geoff.

Yes Mike, this is the problem.
Apparently Canon used to have a lock on this wheel but had too many complaints about faulty locks so they removed it. I gummed mine up with Blu Tak last year after a bad experience with a Black-headed Bunting, but it appears the Blu Tak dried out over the summer and failed to hold it. I've replaced the Blu Tak but too late for this bird.
