No doubt that we have new photos for our next version of bird guide.
Author: EricB    Time: 12/05/2011 05:06

Not wanting to appear controversial or put a  damper on things, but my experience of this species is that they habitually sit in the the middle of pretty dense foliage when at their day time roost. I am interested in the circumstances around the photos. Was it flushed inadvertently? In the last photo , is it about to fly off? Pretty amazing feet. Some of us will remember what happened to Eric Hosking.....
Still they are beautiful photos of a beautiful bird.
Thanks for sharing them.
Eric

其實這是一只極度迫真的模型,是 比利 知道 SMP 會去那裏而放上去用來欺騙 SMP 去拍的!在你的知識之中 比利 之流又有何能耐找得到牠而且那麼清楚呢?

I am interested to know, on the other hand, how much EXPERIENCE you have had on this species. Or your general experience with birds.

Wonderful photographs!  Hard come by I am sure.

I think Eric is right to say that forest owls generally stay hidden through the day- especially at this time of year when presumably, they have young in the nest.  Wood owls that I have seen in Borneo roost in dense foliage in the day and become active towards dusk.  This is certainly the pattern of calls that has been seen in Lam Tsuen- calling from dusk through to dawn (although it has been very quiet recently- a result of leaving for TPK or breeding?)

A brown wood owl was heard calling and briefly seen at TPK at around the same time this evening (May15).

Didn't see a Brown Wood Owl, but saw what I believe is a Tawny Owl in the garden area, may be hunting frogs (around 8pm today). Unfortunately, no picture.

This is exciting news, and not as crazy as it sounds!

I have been hearing an owl making a call that is very similar to Tawny Owl in Taiwan.

I believe there is a real possibility we have two big owl species in the forest.

Please put together a description of your sighting for the records committee.

Cheers
Mike K
