With an oval black crystal pupil surrounded by crimson iris, the male koel scrutinized the spider's web-liked branches around him in Shek Kong on January 28th. Taking a final look at the back of the tree, he took off by spreading his wings manipulated through the interlocking branches. The charcoal plumage radiated a brilliant bluish tone under the high sky.
