A pair of greater painted snipes appeared in Long Valley on December 17th. They occupied two adjacent ponds covered with water plants in shallow water. This snipe exposed itself momentarily when it switched from the wet land to dry ground. However, its mate hided among the water plants without showing its face for the whole day.
