This harrier flew in front of the Deep Bay hide on Thursday. The white shoulder patches were prominent so I'm going for Pied Harrier. Neil

I think you'll find this is Eastern Marsh Harrier. The pale unmarked undersides to the primaries with contrastingly dark tips, the relatively large bill, largely pale head and rufous rump indicate this species.

The pale forewing patches are a feature of male Pied Harriers, but any bird showing these would be clearly Pied on other features.

Thanks Geoff. I wonder whether my previous "unsure raptor" of two weeks ago was also an Eastern. Neil.
