Judging from photos on HKBWS forum, It seems to me that most of the recent Water Rail records in HK are Eastern Water Rail (Brown-cheeked Rail, Rallus indicus). May I ask how many Western Water Rail (Rallus aquaticus, presumably subspecies korejewi) are there in HK? Is there a good HK photo showing the undertail pattern? Thanks in advance.

According to the List of HK Bird data :http://www.geoffwelch46.com/HKListData2014.xls
There are only 2 records of Western Water Rail in HK. The most recent record is on 2 Dec 2006 to 8 Dec 2006 at Mai Po. This record with photos showed good id feature for this species and has been described by an article in HK Bird Report. Please see the HK Bird Report 2007-08 http://www.hkbws.org.hk/web/chi/documents/bird_report/2007-08_birdreport_protected.pdf.
