Great thread and patch work! Really exiting seeing wall these great birds in what I imagine is an urban area?

What habitats are you birding in? I can't picture what it is like there!
Author: 星魚    Time: 28/09/2016 13:48

thanks sdavid reply, in fact, Homantin is comparatively higher green land than other place in kowloon city,,,and I think the birds like to take a rest and have a chance to refuel and then continue the long long journey,,,,!!
it is also surprise myself can find so many birds there,,,,,there are many slopes with different plant, so attract different birds to stay for while,,,and just for a while,,,,,!!^^

             Happy Birding

I always think you are very lucky!!  Are you still birding in Ma Tau Wai Service Reservoir?

Most of the time I can't find any migratory birds in there.  What is your tactics?  Stay in a spot to wait birds or walk around to find them?

Author: wgeoff    Time: 31/10/2016 15:07     Subject: Autumn Migration in Big Cities

An interesting article on Autumn Migration in Big Cities in the Autumn 2016 Bulletin of The Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.

The article states that migrants are "highly likely to pop up in a dense urban area during fall (autumn) migration"
Although this is based on data from North America, there is no reason to think it doesn't happen here also - and Homantin is a good example.

Why this should happen in autumn rather than spring is a good question. I would guess it has two factors - the number of inexperienced 'first-winter' migrants in autumn, and the slower pace of birds on autumn migration than spring, when they fly longer distances in each spring migration step rather than in autumn.

Thanks Wgeoff,^^
Very Good Article to encourage birders to explore in City,,,,,!!  Many many treasures besides us,,,,,!!
