On 3 Dec 07, when I was observing birds inside a bird hide in HK Wetland Park, an Oriental Magpie Robin flied into the bird hide and stood on the table. I took several snapshots of it. Here are two of the photos:-

Pretty close, but I think you still need to beat 4" from a Chinese Pond Heron looking straight in the lens. Too close for my 105mm  
I had to blow smoke in his eyese to make him move away so I could get a focus.
