Subject: [Sandpipers] Tattler? [Print This Page]

I photographed this in soft early light from the new hide at MPNR looking towards Tsim Bei Tsui on 2nd October 2008. I wondered if it might be Grey-tailed tattler . My hide companion told me it looked like a poorly marked Common sandpiper but I am not convinced. The complete absence of "bracers" at the shoulder makes me question this ID.

Expert opinion sought. Thanks

I took a similar one a few days before ( http://www.hkbws.org.hk/BBS/view ... &extra=page%3D1 ) and was given to understand that it was a grey-tailed tattler.

Thank you Peter - your photos are excellent! I was a considerable distance away and would like to have got a lot closer.
