Colour-ringed Little Stint wintering at Taiwan

There are some re-sighing of colour-ringed Little Stints at Taiwan. Please have a look of this link

It is also interesting to see the winter plumage of this species, which is very difficult to distinguish from the Red-necked Stint.

Interesting to know that the species winters in the region. I saw a stint at Mai Po last winter (December 2008) which I suspect was Little Stint. The plumage was very like Red-necked, but with structural differences typical of Little.

I forgot to mention that the bird was ringed in the breeding ground in Russia.

Hi yattung,

This re-signing Little Stint was first seen with breeding plumage in Chiayi in April 2008. The photos are here:

It was seen again At Bu Dai this this winter.

I believe Little Stints winter in Taiwan because I have seen 2 small group of Little Stints(non-breeding plumage) wintered in Tainan and Chiayi for at least 2 years(2008-2009, 2009-2010). And also some confired individuals(breeding plumage) at the same place for at least 4 years in the spring(2006~2009).

We have a discussion of the identification of non-breeding plumage of Little and Red-necked Stint. I think the "typical" Non-breeding plumage Little Stint can be distinguished from Red-necked Stint by structure(Little Stint is slimmer; has longer, finer, slightly drooping bill; and longer-legged ). There are many photos of non-breeding Little Stints and Red-necked Stints in the discussion:

I think Little Stints may winter in Hong Kong since they do winter in South Asia, Taiwan and Japan.
