Wow, what a fantastic series of photos. Lucky you for observing something like this!

The snake looks like a Checkered Keelback, which is common in this part of Hong Kong.

This bird is still in its first year, but already skillful to catch a snake.  I bet it will survive to become an adult.

I had actually been puzzling over the age of this bird, and would be interested to know which features you used to age it Ho-fai.

The bird has clearly moulted out of juvenile plumage (which is largely white) into an adult-like body plumage. I would not have expected a bird in it's first calendar year to have completed body moult by October (compare this bird in December: http://orientalbirdimages.org/se ... _ID=&pagesize=1).
However, the wings and tail are not those of an adult, with more narrow bars rather than the broad black and white bars associated with adults. I cannot make out any moult contrast in the wing or tail to suggest the bird is moulting into adult plumage, and the feathers appear to all be the same age.
The best conclusion I had reached was that this was a second calendar-year individual, which had moulted into adult plumage but still retains juvenile wing/tail feathers. I'm not sure if this is correct though, and I would expect at least some moult - which is why I'm confused!

Should think it is the same eagle resting in Yin Kong.  I went there yesterday morning.  I understood from the photogers that there had been no feeding from the photogers.

Hi,blackpipi

Seeing the pictures of people standing on the fields to photograph this bird, I understand why the HKBWS has reissued their request to respect farmers rights in Long Valley:
http://www.hkbws.org.hk/BBS/view ... 9293&highlight=

Please do not walk on farmers fields, to avoid causing any damage to crops or land.

I concur with ajohn.

Yesterday, when the eagle drank from a spring, many photgers simply rushed to good spots on farmland.  I should think we would have to bear the consequence as a whole later.  Could we convey the message to some of the key figures of the photogers?  I understand that some of them have frequented their visits there for a number of days.  I have asked my friend who know some of them to spread the words.

Actually, the spot is now a multi-region attraction.  I met some from mainland yesterday.  From the URL cited above, the photogers might have come from Macau.  Could we try harder to keep LV a place with welcoming arms for bird lovers?

John, I think you are right. I see from the tail that is is an immature, but I am not sure about the timing of the post-juvenile moult.

Dear birdwatchers,

Please make every effort not to damage crops.  If there is any damage, I think the farmer should be compensated, and of course an apology is in order.

Hi,HF Cheung
