The First Black-faced Spoonbill arrive

Nine Black-faced Spoonbills (at least four adults) were spotted at Mai Po today. Four of these birds (the sub-adults and juveniles) were probably the ones to stay over the summer and the remaining one could also be a new individual. The first birds usually arrived Mai Po around mid-October and this record shows the birds arrived Mai Po with the cold front.

Saw a group of them flying faraway over the mudflats and landed there.  There were about 22.  Sorry for the poor photos; quite far away from the hide with my 420mm lens.

A few bfs were seen this morning at Nam Sang Wai, of which two were foraging near the mudflats.
