Tsim Bei Tsui (The Fence)

At any time this walk is one of the best bird watching sites available for a wide variety of resident and visiting species. Most of the wetland birds recorded at Mai Po can also be seen here. The bay is good for wetland birds, especially wintering duck, and a wide variety of shorebirds pass through the area. On the landward side a tidal lagoon, fishponds, an egretry and roadside scrub provide a range of habitats. The small hills near the Tsim Bei Tsui pavilion are a good place to search for migrating raptors. "The Fence" has gained an international reputation and is part of the Deep Bay Ramsar site. Along the border fence, just before the large bridge over the wide creek, a rough track on the right can be followed to the village of Mong Tseng, which has patches of woodland and abandoned farmland, fishponds and orchards.
