Development in Long Valley

Long Valley is threatened by the proposed Fanling Byass under the development plan of the Kwu Tung North by Planning Department, and a proposed spurline between Sheung Shui KCR Station and a new terminal at Lok Ma Chau by KCRC. Both of these infrastructures will cut through the heart of the ecological important Long Valley and fragmented it into pieces.

While considerable development is planned for the Fanling, Sheung Shui, and Kwu Tung area. It is not unreasonable to expect that this be undertaken without significant adverse impacts to Long Valley.

Therefore, we would like to see the complete long-term avoidance of:

  • On-site activities such as developments and roads that lead to the loss of wetland habitat
  • On-site activities that may degrade the habitat or have detrimental impacts on associated flora and fauna, e.g. pollution
  • Off-site activities that may degrade the habitat or have detrimental impacts on associated flora and fauna e.g. noise disturbance from construction activities, housing or roads.
