Hong Kong is one of the largest wintering sites of Black-faced Spoonbill, the result of the Census will also provide essential information with regard to the management of the Mai Po Inner Deep Bay Ramsar Site (see map below).
The HKBWS Black-faced Spoonbill Research Group focuses on information collection, monitoring, liaision with local and international experts, conduct relevant publicity and publish finding and results. Team members include Yat-tung Yu (convenor), Anthony Lo, Dickson Wong, Forrest Fong, Louis Cheung and Ho-fai Cheung.

The Group has assisted Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government in winter 2001/02 and 2002/03 to carry out a project on age structure assessment of wintering Black-faced Spoonbill.
