種子速遞 - 白頭鵯
【 明 報 專 訊 】 冬 去 春 來 ， 閒 逛 郊 外 ， 不 少 植 物 已 結 成 纍 纍 果 實 ， 你 或 我 可 能 沒 有 留 意 這 些 毫 不 起 眼 的 果 實 和 種 子 ， 但 一 眾 雀 鳥 已 大 快 朵 頤 ， 大 家 行 山 郊 遊 時 ， 不 妨 抬 頭 ， 留 意 一 下 「 大 嘴 巴 」 白 頭 鵯 的 饞 嘴 相 ， 看 看 牠 們 把 果 實 狼 吞 虎 嚥 吞 之 餘 ， 亦 可 觀 察 有 趣 的 「 生 態 後 續 」 ， 看 牠 們 飽 餐 一 頓 後 把 種 子 排 出 ， 無 意 間 扮 演 種 子 「 速 遞 員 」 的 角 色 ......

雀鳥親熱 快如閃電
【 明 報 專 訊 】 明 天 是 浪 漫 的 情 人 節 ， 相 信 很 多 戀 人 都 追 求 「 一 顆 不 變 的 心 」 、 渴 望 一 段 至 死 不 渝 的 愛 情 。 在 雀 鳥 世 界 ， 好 些 鳥 類 也 對 伴 侶 不 離 不 棄 ， 牠 們 嚴 守 一 夫 一 妻 制 ， 情 意 綿 綿 。 不 過 大 家 若 要 一 睹 雀 鳥 「 親 熱 」 場 面 ， 卻 一 點 不 容 易 ， 皆 因 牠 們 往 往 為 了 提 防 遇 襲 而 要 「 閃 電 式 交 配 」 ， 有 些 更 快 至 1 到 2 秒 便 完 成 。
鳥 類 世 界 中 ， 一 樣 有 「 花 心 」 的 ， 牠 們 年 年 轉 換 伴 侶 ﹔ 但 有 些 雀 鳥 則 對 伴 侶 「 專 一 不 變 」 ， 當 其 中 一 方 受 傷 ， 另 一 方 往 往 留 下 作 伴 ， 不 忍 飛 走 ﹔ 除 非 伴 侶 不 幸 身 故 ， 否 則 另 一 方 是 不 會 離 棄 遠 走 的 ......

For members' interest, there is an interesting article in the current issue "Action Asia" about Hong Kong's diverse habitats which support a wide varitey of birdlife.

The city belies its ultra urban image by also being an important waypoint on one of the region's main migratory routes for birds......(please refer to the magazine for details)
Thanks also for Steve for promoting the "Hong Kong Bird Watching Map", a pamphlet which provide useful bird watching information for tourist. It is available at the HK International Airport and Tourist Information Centre through the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
The magazine is available in bookshops and large newspaper stores.
