In my opinion, there's still a large chance that the meningitis outbreak in India, as well as the one in the Philippines last December, has nothing to do with bird migration. Perhaps the meningococcus infections came out of nowhere, or just due to secondary infection after common influenza A infections. I think we need more investigations and evidences before we can conclude the meningitis cases are due to H5N1. So, I guess we don't have to worry... yet. However, I do believe there's something fishy going on... If the meningitis outbreaks are really caused by H5N1, then that means there have been human H5N1 outbreaks in India and the Philippines, and that is disasterous.
