A minor point - I started this new Long Valley thread with the title 2006 Autumn.
Although technically, I suppose we are still in summer, some of the birds occurring now are returning migrants -the Watercock (although perhaps this bird over-summered??), the 3 species of sandpiper, the Common Snipe, the early Yellow-rumped Flycatcher - so in birding terms I think it's arguable that my original title is more appropriate.

A Black Bittern was recorded at flight in Long Valley on 26 August 2006 at about 5pm. Additionally, a pair of Greater Painted Snipe were found on a newly formed taro field on the same day.
